Whatever the reward is that you decided to give yourself, make sure it’s something you can actually afford. You won’t have to worry about matching the colors and design yourself, and you won’t have to worry about placing the mirror in just the right spot. And, it’s priced right! It’s also the perfect size to wrangle the kiddos’ sneakers and sandals.
It’s time to let laziness go. If you are being suffocated by too much stuff in your home, it’s never too late to do something about it. That shirt may have looked cute on the hanger when it was marked down to $15 on “final sale,” but once you got it home, it sat in your closet for months unworn.
Saving some of your energy isn’t the only benefit, though; taking some time to declutter your closet also reduces the number of boxes you need and might save even save you money on movers. If you still have items with the tags still on, keeping them won’t bring back the money you’ve already shelled out on them. You are using an out of date browser.
Clothing that’s in poor repair or hopelessly dated, though, should have a quick date with the dumpster or a textile recycling bin. Consider parting with items in need of repair. Bring the items that you need and love and make a plan for getting rid of the rest. As you handle each one, ask yourself if you really love and want to keep THIS item. Traditionally, you’ll want three piles - keep, donate, and trash.
Do you have three virtually identical versions of ¾ sleeve floral shirts or multiple little black dresses? Take everything out of drawers, cupboards and cabinets and sort the items into three piles: 1) things that should go in the drawer, cupboard or cabinet ; 2) things that belong somewhere else; and 3) things to get rid of. Packing for a move is a fantastic opportunity to sort through your possessions.
To make your move even more straightforward, give Apple Moving a call! There are several solid reasons to declutter a closet before a move. More hanging space is more efficient than shelving space, especially if you have too many clothes and not enough closet space. On one wall, the dotted line (the edge of the hanging clothes) goes all the way across to the end of its wall (the corner).
Mine is a small bag with a little hanger that can be hung on the clothesline and scooted down the line with me as I hang clothes. Or, you go shopping without a plan and you end up buying clothes that you just don’t feel good wearing. You will end up making a huge mess and if you get tired before you are done, you will have no space in your bed for you to sleep in.
So before I can wear anything that I find at Salvation Army, Goodwill of ThredUp, I have to get the smell out of thrift store and consignment clothes! Fewer clothes will also help you organize the closet at your new home faster. If you have an underused closet in your home and an overstuffed wardrobe closet, consider this overflow storage solution. This simple white cubby bench is a great solution for an entryway if you’re a sneaker and flats kind of gal.
This storage solution makes fantastic use of vertical space, takes up minimal room in the walkway since the shelves are sleek and shallow, and creates an accessible shoe landing spot to pull from. This sneaker lover installed shallow vertical shelves in a hallway to take advantage of an unused wall. Yup, that one. Take it out. Closets can be one of the most cluttered areas of the home. Therefore, ensure you get another piece of dry cloth and go through the areas mentioned.
The old rule of thumb is that you should get rid of anything that you haven’t worn in a year. Take some time to look through your clothing as you get ready to pack up your closet. ContentsHow do you organize a large walk-in closet? A closet can be a thing of beauty, when you can get it organized and clean.
This allows each shelf to fit an extra pair or two, which is never a bad thing for us shoe lovers! And extra props to Jane of FitFabFunMom for double stacking her shoes from front to back to make the most of the space. This would maximize the storage and allow for those shoes to come off of the floor. Come on through to my closet!
