I have NEVER been so excited to clean out my closet! When I begin my closet purge, I search for garments that don’t match my style preferences and set them aside. Its an amazing effort and feels good to give these garments a welcome home! Hi Sandra, Great to meet you and welcome to my community! Baskets - Great for accessories, scarves, pajamas, socks, underwear, or tank tops.
For example, keep one bag for socks, one for underwear, and so on. Dedicate drawers to smaller items like T-shirts, underwear, and socks. Even if you typically dread organizing, you might find it slightly less stressful now that you have fewer items to sort through. Once you make it a routine to upkeep your closet on a consistent basis, you will find that it will always stay organized!
Organizing your closet doesn’t have to be a nightmare scenario when you follow tips from the experts, including decluttering, labeling, and sorting by category. If you are having to stay home right now but are still trying to use your time wisely (think: closet clean-out, pantry organization, starting your own garden, etc.), we hope these 4 tips will help you create a closet that is full of items that you wear on a regular basis and feel good about putting on.
You are so on point about jeans. I think torn jeans are hideous, and I spent my adolescence in the era when that was considered cool. I don’t think Jane Fonda in that picture is inappropriate, the jeans are just ugly! Especially jeans. What is appropriate depends on your body and what else you are wearing. Save yourself precious drawer and hanging space by stacking bulky winter sweaters and stiff denim jeans (in separate piles, of course).
Use a hanging organizer. After 6 months, you will notice that the clothes you have not worn are still on the hangers hanging backward! There are other stores out there that will purchase your clothes, such as Plato’s Closet, but since most of us are required to stay home due to the pandemic, Poshmark and ThreadUp might be the most practical resources to utilize right now! After getting your closet organized and ready to go, we are now ready to figure out what to do with all of the items you are no longer keeping.
This may mean buying bigger sizes now even if your child does not fit into them yet. Get it from Amazon for $19.99 (available in two sizes and in three styles designed to hold everything from pans to lids). If you like, you can even buy one or two. Two great online options for selling used clothes are Poshmark and ThreadUp. You may consider selling a few of your items, especially if they have only been worn once or twice or if they are a designer brand.
The upside is that they have true drawers, offer the maximum storage capacity, and have a more finished look. I do not want to look like a teen nor like an old mum… You certainly don’t want to try to dress like them but you don’t want to look like you are out of date either! Since most shelters or donation centers do not accept used undergarments, we are loving what Hanky Panky is up to!
You can get your free recycling bag from Hanky Panky here. You can also simply donate your clothes to ThreadUp, also free of charge, by requesting a donation bag here. The Shelby by Free People is your classic, loose fitting, low-rise boyfriend jean. A bunch of friends came over and a few people bought things, but in the end, I just couldn’t ask my friends to pay for this stuff.
I used to tell my friends who did that they looked like the victim of a lion attack. She has decided to hold a small party with her friends and some close relatives. I am 41 and in a month one of my daughters is celebrating her 15 birthday party. But what you choose to dress your windows with is a design decision as well as a practical one. You dress up in the morning, you put on a T-shirt, jeans, a sweater, a pair of sneakers, a jacket, and you grab your purse: that’s 6 items.
When I put them in my closet, all the hoods took up needed space. And if you need simple ideas to organize your closet, check these out! My college roommate would organize her entire closet by items and color, which always impressed me, but if that seems like too much work, a simple “shirts,” “dresses,” “pants,” etc. categorization will work here.
If you still have items that you think you may wear but aren’t 100% sure about, try this simple strategy: turn all your hangers backward when organizing your clothes. When you do wear an item, turn the hanger back around. We also hope that this activity gives you a chance to give back by donating or recycling items you no longer use! If you have a drab-looking back wall that otherwise is an empty space open to customizations, get creative, and utilize the area efficiently.
