Listen, out of date clothing takes too long to come back around before it’s cool again. Closets are great because you can shove all of your junk in them, shut the door, and it’s like that junk doesn’t even exist. But just because you can’t start and finish the project in one day, doesn’t mean you’re not making progress. A clean and organized closet leads to easier mornings and who doesn’t want that?
You want quick and easy access to your clothes, shoes, and fashion accessories. According to a study by Fashion United, the average man owns about six pairs of jeans but only uses around four of them frequently. On the other hand, if you have a limited number of hangers or a smaller wardrobe, consider folding your jeans to save space. If you find you have to deal with this issue often then you need to find a way to openly discuss it with friends/family that keep gifting it to you.
This is probably one of the most helpful rule that you can find which will give you that extra boost to get rid of things that have not been used in the last 6 months. This way, I know exactly where to find what I’m looking for and don’t make a mess of the piles when getting dressed in the morning.
Make piles. As you remove, sort as you go. Finally, make sure you are focused on the task at hand. It is so much easier to envision yourself conquering a small task than it is an entire room in one afternoon. Start small, y’all. Don’t start decluttering an entire room at once. As soon as you begin decluttering your wardrobe and placing clothes into distinct piles, there are times when sentimental pieces of clothing can bring the entire detox process to a halt.
What is your biggest problem when it comes to decluttering your clothing? You tell yourself you’ll wear it over a t-shirt therefore solving the problem. This six-month window spans enough time for seasonally appropriate wear. For me, the thought of having more space and less junk is reward enough. But maybe for you, a fun reward would be a special coffee drink, a new pair of jeans, or something else.
Before you spend time on this decluttering project, consider how you can reward yourself. That vision of another person’s happiness always motivates me to start the decluttering process. Then start a box for donations and get your items to give away out of your space. I have a give away box with a lid in my walk in closet. If you don’t have room for the item and you don’t wear it then it needs to go.
Always fold if you do not wear them often. You can purchase shower curtain rings at just about any Dollar Store and they work great to help consolidate belts, scarves or tank tops on one hanger. If you are on a budget, Dollar Tree, Target, Walmart, and Homegoods all have affordable options that will work. You already know my first big rule- three months used or will use in three months.
Let us know in the comments. Now it’s time to let it go. While decluttering a closet can be a big undertaking, it’s always worth it. It’s time to start getting rid of clothing. Instead, I’ve been posting certain areas of my house from time to time in hopes of inspiring you to do the same. Whether I use some cardboard boxes I have leftover from Christmas to hold my socks or purchase a variety of matching bins to hold pens, pencils, and craft supplies, each one is the same concept: individual bins arranged in such a way to create custom divided compartments within a drawer!
If you have a couple of black t-shirts, you probably grab for the same one or two every time. When’s the last time you wore it? When was the last time I wore this? If you’re having a hard time with this one then you can fix the item but it needs to be done right after your decluttering session.
I fall for this trap all the time when decluttering too many clothes. Hopefully, you learned not just the how of decluttering a jam-packed closet but also the why so you don’t have to deal with too many clothes for a long time. This is the best way for how to start decluttering… These tips and questions will help you make the best decision to create a masterpiece closet.
We’ve got lots of tips that will help you make simple improvements to live a stress less life. It may not look as great or as perfect as you want but certainly, it will get better as you keep making efforts to create a beautiful abode. “This folding style is all about making differently shaped clothing items look uniform by tucking the edges, the neck, and hemlines and hiding any visible seams or straps,” Brookshire explains.
