How often should you wash clothes?

How to Organize Your Closet Not enough room? Consider getting rid of a few more pairs or investing in a shoe cabinet for outside the closet. Having under-the-bed storage will free up your floor space, leaving you much more room for more important things (like more houseplants). Once everything is back in your closet, you will be amazed at how much room you have, how much less ironing you may need to do and how great you feel every time you look at your closet!

If you have clothes bursting through your closet doors, Seifert tells us, "space-saving velvet hangers are a go-to if you need to maximize your space." And honestly, the uniform look alone instantly elevates the look of your closet. In the perfect world, how would your wardrobe look? Beware of how much your wardrobe weighs; you may need more than two of those brackets. After all the sorting was done, I had about a fourth of the clothes I’d started with, at least two paper bags of trash, as well as a large pile to donate and two full boxes of items to sell!

Begin by sorting your belongings into groups of like-items. Make sorting piles for each category: KEEP, SELL, DONATE and TRASH and work through it until your closet is completely empty. If needed, install extra shelving to make enough shelf space (or floor space) to fit every pair. As you’re preparing to sort, if you know you’re going to have to work through how to declutter sentimental items, feel free to make a pile or set out a box for these items and review them separately from the rest of the stuff.

Place all these items in a box and date it for 6 months from now. Try storing the items out of sight in a box for a few months and see if you feel the need to get it out. Unfortunately, we’re not all blessed with the huge walk in wardrobes we see on TV. I am a retired military wife and I love your organizing ideas. For now, just put them in storage somewhere so you can finish up the closet organizing first.

Put all the handbags in one stack, all the tank tops in another, and so on. You’ll use a combo of hanging and folding depending on what storage options are available, Tree perhaps one siblings clothes are folded while the other are hanging? If you truly never use the item, ask yourself if you’d feel good about someone else enjoying it?

There’s even an online timer for you to use. There’s a good chance that many of the clothes you’re keeping haven’t been worn in the last few months, and what better way to give your closet a fresh and clean scent than by having it full of clean clothes! Give your bedroom some dimension and character by combining fuzzy throws with crocheted pillows or fringe rugs. Can you give stained clothes to charity?

If I give it away, will the memory go away with it? And giving that item away will feel like an opportunity for you to bless someone else. That way, you’re giving yourself the chance to need it - hey, you may grab something out of that box in the next few months! Giving everything a place where it belongs. If you aren’t sure what styles you like, search the internet for ideas.

I hope it’s inspired you to try a few ideas out! Like I mentioned above, I’m not a super sentimental person (and I’ve recently lost a lot of weight so many of my clothes simply didn’t fit anymore) so this process took me just a few hours. A few tips I have are to put your flip flops and casual sandals in a basket for easy access and store your other shoes with one facing forward and one facing backward.

This applies if you are thinking of having new babies in the future. What are essential pieces? Once your clothes are organized by category, do a quick sort of the clothes within each category. Now that you’ve set some guidelines for what to keep and not to keep, go through each and every item in your closet and sort them based on the parameters you set above. After you’ve gotten all of your laundry washed and smelling extra fresh, it’s time to start organizing!

Now that you’ve gotten all of your belongings sorted, it’s time to get them put where they belong! My closet already had some hanging rods, but I chose to adjust the height on two of them to put them at a lower level for my shirts and pants. I recommend hanging dresses, dress shirts or blouses, pants and shorts, Electronic Dart Board skirts and jackets.

Rolling is a good way to store jeans, pants, or soft leggings in a small amount of space, but never roll pants made of linen or gauzy fabrics. Knits / Sweaters: Sometimes hanging a sweater might seem like a good idea, but I’ve had sweaters stretch weirdly as a result. Maybe you own a tight, bright mini skirt that still fits, is still in great condition, and still feels good on you.
