I tend to buy classics rather than trend items and I generally buy quite expensive well-made pieces that last for years. If you have some wall space that isn’t suited to shelves or closet organizers, you could install hooks for hanging items on. Bulkier items that take up too much space are better stored using hangers. For a period of time, I used to throw out clothes compulsively because I was sick of owning so much.
The trendier stuff I buy cheap at stores like H&M and if after a few wears if I'm sick of it, I consign it. I don't wear very much until it actually wears out, though I do with denim. How often should you throw out clothes you don't wear? A-style midi skirts, knit pants, hoodie sets, long sweaters, short blazers, full skirts, A-style dresses, high waist tennis skirts, skater skirts, A-style midi skirts, cold shoulders, and skinny jeans are some of the clothes that are not in anymore.
I have such a hard time finding an ideal fit that I will wear jeans until they are no longer wearable! For me, I think the only articles of clothing I have kept over 5 yrs are jeans. I just got rid of about 150 articles of clothing last week that I had for way too long.. Once an item looks worn, I try to replace it but generally speaking the clothes I buy last a long time, both in terms of quality and style.
Rather than regarding tidying as a chore to be dreaded and rushed through, try to view it as worthwhile labor needed to maintain a place where you can live and thrive. My classic pieces I tend to invest in and make sure they are well made and I try to treat them well too. Before cleaning up a messy house, it is a good idea to make a list of priorities.
Most of them I use to lounge around the house, but I don't wear them outside. Less is more. I find that the more stuff I have the harder time I have picking things to wear! Hmm I keep things until I find that I don't wear them or I'm not going to wear them.. If you can bear the temporary chaos, pull everything out of your closet and ensure that you love, and will wear everything in there.
Most of my best wardrobe comes from a local high-end consignment shop and that stuff will probably always remain in my closet because I could never replace this stuff. Most consignment stores won't accept clothing that's more than two years old, so keep that timeline in mind when selecting pieces to donate. I sell the kids' stuff at a consignment sale in the spring and fall, so I do a big clean/purge before each of those.
So I haven't bought much to follow the latest trends, and haven't got rid of a lot of stuff recently. Give yourself and others easy access to the stuff you will actually use. Long dresses - Give long dresses plenty of space to hang about four inches off the floor. The goal is to give them something that will be a blessing. Besides, how much happier will you feel every morning when you open your clothes to view only clothes that fit!
I think I'm over that phase now, though, because I'm realizing how much I like the variety a large wardrobe provides. It depends. Some clothes stretch out/shrink, others I just grow out of or realize I don't like it anymore. I keep clothes in my wardrobe for years before I throw/give them away, though it depends on how worn out they get, if I still fit in them, etc. When I was at my parent's home last month I picked up a beige blazer I used to wear in college -- I took it back with me and now I can't stop wearing it.
As long as they still fit, aren't faded. 8 years ago that still look the same as when i bought them. “Defining your personal style really is what makes you feel good, what you feel you look good in, and what you feel good in yourself. It makes me feel all organised and uncluttered. Also pay attention to how you feel in the fit and in the material. You feel like you’re constantly tripping over things, and you can never find what you’re looking for.
I find that if I spend more on something I tend to hang onto them longer. But some of the more popular choices include oak, cherry, and maple. What is the material for a shelf? I have clothes in my wardrobe that are 10 years old or more. Honestly, the oldest thing in my closet is probably 8-9 years old at most and it's my first pair of high end jeans, Paper Denim and Cloth (when they first came out).
I'm wearing an old flannel shirt right now that I've had at least 14 years, LOL. Now if a dress is 100% cotton, I tend to keep it forever. And I will keep it until it dies. This is my reminder that the space in my closet is limited and I need to be selective in what pieces will be allowed to stay.Remember, a smaller collection of amazing outfits are far better to have than a huge collection of random things that we have to work to sift through each morning while we are getting dressed.
