Start simplifying and decluttering your own stuff first, then move on to the communal stuff he has no strong opinions about. Tuck away least-used items: Use the very top of your closet for out-of-season items and stuff you only wear a few times a year, such as Halloween costumes and super-fancy shoes. If so, you need to know a few declutter motivation tips before you start using the Step By Step Decluttering plan I use.
Do you plan to iron where your clothes are? So far, I had already been doing what you are suggesting and now I feel so encouraged by what you say! I was doing pretty well until I had to have major surgery. Yes it takes me a little longer to get a task done as I have to stop and rest a little more often but I am already seeing improvement.
Then have other spaces (where you spend more time) that you could compromise to keep more clutter-free. I couldn't agree more! 2. Use large boxes for your bedding. 1. Invest in sturdy packing boxes. 4. Fold packing paper over the top before closing the box. Use an acid-free, sturdy cardboard storage box or sweater bag, and line it with tissue paper.
You should store clothes in plastic rather than wood, paper or cardboard boxes. 3. Label your boxes and make a map of your unit. 6. Label the boxes according to bedroom. ContentsIs a dresser a must in the bedroom? 1. Focus on one bedroom at a time. According to Kondo’s Konmari method, clothes should be folded and stored vertically in rows, like files in a filing cabinet, rather than stacked one on top of the other.
In the top drawer you can have your undergarments, in the one below you can have pants and in the third one you can have the tops that can be folded. I mean clothes that have been hanging in your closet for months or even years with that tags still attached. That’s why a hanging organizer like this one can come in handy. Add an extra bar to the closet for hanging clothes.
While replacing thick for sparse seems insignificant on paper, the benefits quickly add up. Often, when they see the benefits in actions, it can inspire them to try letting go too. Try and make it so you group your items from light to dark as that has. Now let’s make sure they look elevated. If you haven’t gone into the box in three months, give everything in the box away because now you realize that you never really missed those clothes anyway.
Storing them in compressed bags for a few months isn’t that bad, but when storage exceeds six months, you’ll start to cause damage. And finally, choose where you’ll start. Consider the 80/20 rule which means that 80% of the time you’ll probably only wear 20% of your clothes. This time my goal is to reduce the amount of cleaning necessary to keep things tidy. I started decluttering a couple of years ago I slowly tackled one room at a time.
Great reminders and ideas to keep me on the decluttering path. It's definitely a great idea to start small because it's easy to put off the daunting task of decluttering your entire home. And it sounds like having less to make your home easier to manage is a great idea! Am I trying to inventory or am I trying to organize to make life easier?
Love this post. It is so easy to get overwhelmed and lose sight of the small actions that can make a difference. I'm glad you found the post helpful, Denise! Getting your spouse on board with decluttering can be challenging for sure. Thank you, I’m so glad you found it helpful. I'm glad my posts have been helpful and encouraging for you! How many outfits does the average person have?
You have to realize that by gossiping you are spreading what you heard, but you don’t know if it is true. If you have at least 1 coffee mug, chances are you have too many. It's important to remember that small actions are important too! How do you store clothes in a small space? Too many clothes and not enough space? How do you store clothes long term? How do you pack linens for long term storage?
How do you pack for long term storage? What should you store clothes in long term? How do you store too many clothes? Cardboard and wood contain chemicals that can transfer on to clothes and damage them. And you can easily do it just like a pro. If you find yourself wanting to hang on to something that you barely use, ask yourself when can you wear it.
